Worakarn or Waew is a former CCF child from Mae HongSorn. When she was in Grade 12, she requested to CCF to stop the support she had received in the previous years as her family was self-contained. After that, she keeps in touch with the project staff and always volunteers to help with anything she can.

The motorbike broke down on the way up to the hilltribe village, Ban JorLeuTai. Waew kept walking tirelessly carrying her backpack, determining to reach the place where she was going to help CCF staff with Happy Saturday.

On 12 July 2016, CCF Mae HongSorn’s Child Development Project conducted “Happy Saturday” activity at Ban JorLeuTai. As usual, Waew was there to help out. Traveling up the mountain on that day was not easy as the weather was miserable, we had experienced the pouring rain all day. The motorbike we used, with special tires and a steel chain, broke down unfortunately. Waew didn’t give up. She walked up to the village for the Saturday activity.

Children in Ban JorLeuTai have only slim chance to get access to education. All they have is a hilltribe community learning centre called “Mae FahLuang – Ban JorLeuTai”. Teachers seldom make visits, that is the reason why children there are not able to read or write. Waew understands this fact very well, so she dedicates her time and energy helping CCF assisting the kids with writing letters to their sponsors, teaching them how to read and write, playing games and singing with them. In her backpack, there are always some sweets for the kids along with stationery. She is very popular among children there.

Waew is now a 4th year student at Mahamakut Buddhist University, Lanna Campus, majoring in Thai Study. Her dream is to be a teacher, teaching underprivileged children in remote areas. Working with CCF staff in Happy Saturday program is the first step in reaching her dream, a girl’s dream that is hugely admired by all.
